Dear Dr. Schuster, (Chairman of Medicine - Montefiore
Hospital)
I'm writing this letter in praise of Dr. Doron Katz
who took care of my mother, R.R.
My mother was admitted to Montefiore's ER on Thanksgiving,
Nov. 28. Her condition was quite critical - a myriad
amount of life threatening conditions vs. a very frail
and elderly lady. The odds were clearly stacked against
my mother. Gangrene, infection, fever, etc., were battling
my mother. It seemed quite hopeless. For a while she
was not responsive, and was placed on a ventilator.
Dr. Katz and his fellow residents kept alive that glimmer
of hope for me and my mother. Their spirited enthusiasm,
hope, and guarded optimism were all that I had to hold
onto.
Everyday, Dr. Katz would give me an update of her condition,
what the plan of action would be, and how she might
respond. He was very pro-active.
Aside from his exemplary professionalism, his display
of warmth, compassion and respect were extraordinary.
I remember Dr. Katz ever so patiently trying to give
my mother a sip of water to drink from a plastic cup.
He exhibited such care and thoughtfulness. For my mother
it was a major feet.
I feel that these young doctors are a credit to their
profession, and Montefiore is very fortunate to have
them.
My mother was discharged back to Hebrew Home on Dec.
18. Her condition is still very tenuous and fragile,
because of the gangrene, but, she is responsive - speaking
a little, and eating. I'm hoping that she gains some
strength now, and then possibly we'll be able to be
more aggressive concenring her gangrene.
The nurses and doctors called my mother a miracle.
I know, in my heart of hearts that she wanted to survive,
but I'll always be grateful to my "miracle workers"
for all they did for me and my mother.
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts with you,
F.N.

Dear Dr. Paley,
Saying good-bye saddens me, but I'm happy for those
who will be fortunate to have you as their physician.
You are really "one in a million." You
were always there for me. You listened and never rushed
me. I always left your office satisfied with the high
quality of care I received.
Good luck, my friend. I hope that I will be fortunate
enough to find someone like you again.
God bless you,
E.S.

Dear Dr. Paley,
Please accept these lines as both well-earned praise
and sincere appreciation. Indeed, I write you now to
wish you well as you establish a new practice, and to
thank you for your extraordinary attentiveness and care
during your tenure at the Cornell University Internal
Medicine Associates group.
As I may have mentioned to you, when I moved to
New York as few years ago, I undertook a comprehensive
search to identify a primary care physician who embodied
superb and recent medical school training, had benefitted
form the unique experience of internship and residency
at first-tier hospitals, and enjoyed a wide ranging
reputation for excellence among his peers and patients.
You were one of only a very few physicians in New York
City who met these (admittedly extraordinary) high criteria.
In fact, when I solicited the views of other physicians
and a host of your patients, I received such glowing
reports of your intellectual talents, genuine interest
in your patient's needs, and overall "bedside manner,"
that immediatly I enrolled in a program that would allow
me to become your patient.
In the several years I have benefited from your
care, I have obtained at first hand every evidence of
just how extraordinary a physician you are: diligent
in your examination of your patients; comprehensive
in the care you provide and oversee; and sensitive to
the needs, cares, and even schedules of your patients.
In a word; you are the consummate physician. And as
such, I must register my personal regret at your departure
form the Cornell Internal Medcine Associates just as
i must celebrate the good fortune of those new patients
in new Jersey who will soon have the privilege of calling
upon you for medical attention.
Yours sincerely,
S.M
